Goethals Bridge, USA
Hebetec Engineering successfuly lowered the 90-year-old Goethals Bridge which connected Staten Island, NY to Elizabeth, NJ. Hebetec and Freyssinet worked closely with the contractor to successfully accomplish this mission.
Once the four lifting units were positioned on the four corners of the span to be lowered, the jacks took over 80% of the expected load and held it for more than a month.
The bridge was lowered maintaining tight tolerances in multiple directions. Lasers were mounted near the jacks and were used to continuously monitor the bridge‘s alignment.
